ERIN DOLAN ART STUDIO
My paintings begin with sense-memory. Drawing on memory palace techniques, I return to lived experiences and translate the color, atmosphere, texture, and emotional resonance that remain after a moment has passed. Rather than depicting a specific place, I am interested in what memory chooses to preserve and how perception continues to shape our understanding of experience over time.
Much of my work explores the dialogue between natural and urban environments, where harmony and tension coexist. Through patient layers of paint, I build and uncover surfaces that mirror the way memories accumulate, fade, and re-emerge. Each layer carries traces of what came before, allowing the painting to reveal itself gradually rather than arrive fully formed.
Color is the driving force of my practice. I am fascinated by its ability to shift perception, evoke emotion, and communicate beyond language. Through an ongoing inquiry into color, memory, and sensory experience, I create abstract paintings that offer spaces for reflection places where viewers can pause, reconnect with their own experiences, and discover what lingers long after a moment has disappeared.
